Large or small? Or medium? New or old? Traditional or innovative?
Erm…….?
You have decided to move on….but where do you go? You know what you can offer and what you want to do….but where can you do it?
In certain areas and in certain sectors, the choice may be limited. It is not uncommon in certain areas to see an applicant who has worked for every potential employer in their chosen sector within the area where they live…and they may have even started the loop again!
In major cities, there may be a vast number of potential homes, many of whom you may never have heard of. So how do you make a decision?
Start with a list which covers “must have”, “like to have” and “can’t have”. Consider a number of factors: location, market sector, ethics, size, operations, environment plus any others which you feel are important.
Be clear in your job search about where you want to go and consider how prepared you are to compromise (which will inevitably be determined by time factors).
Your choice is one that will be purely personal to you. If you are working with a Recruitment Consultancy you should feel comfortable in informing them about what you want to do and where you want to go. Ask about the environment, culture and dynamic of a company. Remember that you generally spend between 35 and 40 hours a week at your place of work…plus travel time! Taking time to make your decision can make your work time more rewarding.
